The Afghan connection

As a footnote to last week's post on Afghan cricket, I have just spotted an interesting letter in this month's Wisden Cricketer from Dr Sarah Fane, chairman of a charity called Afghan Connection, in which the author explains why it is impossible for her charity to include girls in cricket training camps. The letter, co-authored by the former Kent cricketer Matthew Fleming on behalf of the MCC, concludes: 'one day girls will be able to play sport freely and safely in Afghanistan - sadly not yet.'

More information on Afghan Connection's involvement with cricket in Afghanistan can be found at There is also an interesting video of their work in conjunction with the MCC here or in the sidebar to the left of this blog.
