Excellent article by George Dobell on the Championship so far at

Mr Dobell has even started an online petition, campaigning to keep the Championship in its current format.
I won’t be signing it. This is the comment I posted:
As someone who doesn't get to watch too much Championship cricket (I have a job) this is really interesting stuff, particularly about new ball and pitch regulations. However, I won't be signing the petition for two reasons. First, I believe the best way of reviving interest in the Championship would be for England players to appear in the competition. In order for this to happen, Championship games should not coincide with Tests. Ergo, there has to be less Championship games. Secondly, while recognizing that the splitting up of the Championship can only be a good thing, it also seems fair that each county should start every season with an equal chance of winning the competition. A conference system would meet both conditions, with the added advantage of a grand final at the end.
