I know there’s a big story in the world of cricket at the moment, but let’s not forget that the County Championship is about to reach its climax. Okay, it might not be quite up there with spot-fixing and police enquiries, but it promises to be pretty good nevertheless.
If (and that’s a very big if) Gloucestershire win their current match at Bristol (where, half an hour ago, Derbyshire were 9-6 with James Franklin boasting figures of 5-0), they would draw level with Glamorgan in second place in the second division.
With Sussex well ahead at the top of the table it may therefore go down to the wire for the other automatic promotion spot. Gloucestershire and Glamorgan will both have two games to play (they’re not playing each other), and bonus points could be crucial.
Meanwhile in Division 1, Nottinghamshire are favourites for the title, but Somerset and Yorkshire cannot be completely discounted. It promises to be an exciting end to the season in both divisions.
Now back to spot-fixing…
