HOPE FOR HAS-BEENS EVERYWHERE PART II
Last week it was Abdul Haq, the 27-year-old lorry driver who has been invited to join Pakistan's national cricket academy. This week it is David Wade, a Lance Corporal in the British Army. Wade, also 27, was due to return to Kabul for a second tour of duty with the Royal Signal Corps in January. Instead he has signed a two-year contract with Gloucestershire after being spotted while opening the bowling for Westbury in the West of England league last summer. "In the end, it came down to playing cricket or going back to Afghanistan," Wade explained. "Ultimately, my ambition to become a county cricketer won out."
