As a footnote to last week's post on Afghan cricket, I have just spotted an interesting letter in this month's Wisden Cricketer from Dr Sarah Fane, chairman of a charity called Afghan Connection, in which the author explains why it is impossible for her charity to include girls in cricket training camps. The letter, co-authored by the former Kent cricketer Matthew Fleming on behalf of the MCC, concludes: 'one day girls will be able to play sport freely and safely in Afghanistan - sadly not yet.'
More information on Afghan Connection's involvement with cricket in Afghanistan can be found at http://www.afghanconnection.org/cricket.html. There is also an interesting video of their work in conjunction with the MCC here or in the sidebar to the left of this blog.
