A headline writer’s dream

As soon as I heard that Derbyshire batsman Chesney Hughes (below) had scored a century in only his third first class match against Gloucestershire at Derby earlier today, I thought of Chesney ‘The One and Only’ Hawkes.

That was silly of me. I should, of course, have thought of other West Indian cricketers with amazing names (Hughes is from Anguilla, but holds a British passport).

There are the classics - Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers, Cuthbert Greenidge. Of the current crop there’s a Fidel, a Chadwick, and a Royston (middle name Tycho). Ezra Alphonza Moseley is pretty good too.

Send your favourite name for a West Indian cricketer on a postcard to the usual address.
